Columnar storage: Oracle 12c In-Memory database

Objectives

During this course participants learn about one of the two most challenging new features of Oracle 12c - the In-Memory Database Option. Or more specifically: how to turn your 'traditional' Oracle database environment into a columnar data store ready for big data workloads.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • identify the core characteristics of the Oracle In-Memory database option
  • setup, monitor and administer Oracle columnar databases
  • advice application developers - and others - on its usefulness within an Oracle context

Main topics

  • Introduction: the concepts and theories behind columnar databases
  • The Oracle point-of-view: the In-Memory Database Option concepts

Introduction and Architecture

  • The In-Memory Database Option

Concepts - setup of the architecture - initialization parameters - row versus column format - the in-memory concept

Monitoring the In-Memory Database Option

  • DML and the In-Memory Database Option / Columnar Datastore

Data manipulation (scans, joins, aggregation) - Data loads - Partitioning - Hints

Compression

  • Use cases

Intended for

Experienced Oracle DBAs who need to setup, configure and manage the In-Memory Database Option.

Background

Knowledge of Oracle - level Oracle Database Administration - is required.

Training method

This is mainly a conceptual course. After a short theoretical introduction, some time is spent on the set-up and use in a theoretical context.

Course leader

Kris Van Thillo, Sandy Schillebeeckx.

Duration

1 day.

Schedule

Il n'y a pas de sessions publiques a ce moment. Nous organisons volontièrement un cours en entreprise ou une session publique supplémentaire (en cas d'un nombre suffisant de participants). Intéressé ? Veuillez contacter ABIS.
