Intended for

This course is suitable for anyone working in a support role in a z/OS environment who requires a good understanding of data storage.

Background

A general knowledge of MVS concepts (see MVS, OS/390 and z/OS overviewMVS, OS/390 et z/OS: un aperçu) and the ability to use JCL and utility programs (see JCLJCL).

Objectives

This course provides an overview of data storage concepts on z/OS systems. It covers the range of disciplines and skills required to give a good understanding of how the software and hardware interacts, providing a powerful data storage management environment. This course is most suitable for sites using the IBM HSM software.

On successful completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • use HCD to set up an I/O configuration
  • list and describe data storage hardware
  • describe HSM and its main features
  • explain the concepts of SMS
  • write and test ACS routines.
